A Local's Guide to Perth, Australia

Describe who you are in 3 sentences:
My name is Johanna Behrens and I am currently living in Helsingborg Sweden. I have been working for more than 10 years in fashion and now as PR Manager at a Scandinavian fashion Agency based in Sweden and Denmark. I have a special love for antiques, photography, graphic design and beautiful books.

What is your relation to this city?
I have been there twice first time on holiday and recently I studied and lived there for 6 months last year.

Best experience?
That must be when I went camping with friends by the beach in Esperance for New Years. Beaches with sand as fine as powder, seeing Kangaroos on the beaches, watching magical sunsets and driving in the sand dunes which basically looked like a dessert.

Weirdest experience?
A mini gecko clinging on to my shampoo bottle in the morning.

Your top 3 hangout spots?
"Juanitas wine bar" in Subiaco for some amazing wine and tapas plates, Cottesloe beach for some chill time and a dip in the ocean, the "Aviary rooftop bar" for a drink.

Favourite restaurants?
"Little Creatures" in Fremantle - a brewery with great beer, food and atmosphere in a cool industrial setting.

Best date place?
The university of Western Australia's outdoor cinema called "Somerville Auditorium" surrounded by beautiful pine trees. Watch both modern and old black and white movies under the stars.

Best Sunday spot?
"The Garden" in Leederville, an oasis in the summer with outdoor bar and with nice locally sourced food. Elisabeth Quay where Perth's city meets the Swan River. The perfect place to relax or dine.

If you were to live in another place, where would that be and why?
Since I don't live in Perth, I would probably say there, because of the amazing weather and the friendly people. Or Paris because of the amazing culture and art scene. My forever home would probably be somewhere in Kullabygden, Sweden a place where I grew up and where my ancestors have lived since the 17th century. It has a special place in my heart.

Where is your escape place from this city?
Rottnest Island for an adventurous day or weekend. Or a favourite place called Margaret River, a few hours by car from the city, a perfect extended weekend destination. Beautiful beaches, nature and vineyards.

Best 5 local advices?
1. "Swan Valley" with it's many vineyards for wine tasting or a nice lunch
2. "Araluen Botanic Park"
3. "Kings Park" for a picnic with nice views over the city.
4. Feeding the Kangaroos at Mundaring Weir
