I explore the Montauk for the first time, a cute old fisherman village on Long Island. Montauk is the furthest east point on Long Island, so when coming from Manhatten, New York City you past by East - and South Hamptons and then Montauk is the last spot.
Everyone tells me that Montauk has developed a lot through the years, which I cannot say as this was my first time going. But what I can say is that Montauk has a great young and relaxed vibe where nature and sea is key. The air is so fresh and the ocean makes a nice breeze to the hot weather (during summers).
I went exploring a lot of different spots which I would like to share so if you get the chance to get out to Montauk then you know where to go.
You can get to Montauk by train or car in 3 hours. If you do not care about the money, then you can take helicopter from Manhatten straight to Montauk airport which only takes 25 min.
I went by helicopter out to Montauk and drove back. The helicopter is an incredible experience as you are so close to ground that you can see all cars and houses from above which is pretty amazing.
Coffee spots:
Left Hand Coffee: Great coffee spot in Montauk town
Blue Stone Lane Coffee: You might know this coffee spot from New York, which is also serving coffee in Montauk
Restaurants:
Crow's Nest: Super cosy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is delicious and the vibe is top.
Harvest: Family style Italian cuisine Restaurant with both indoor and outside seatings. The restaurant is located next to the sea.
The Surf Lodge: Is THE hot spot of Montauk. Some people find it too "sceny" but they have a lot of activities going on all the time; from live music twice a week to yoga or gotham gym in the morning etc. The have a restaurant that serves brunch, lunch, and dinner.
Gurneys: The high-end of Montauk. They have a spa and several restaurants.
Ruschmeyers: A cute restaurant which gets busy in the evenings.
Hotels:
The Surf Lodge: The hop spot of Montauk
Crow's Nest Inn: Cosy Montauk Hotel
Gurney's: The most luxurious hotel in Montauk
Ruschmeyers: Offers a few bungalows in the garden where you can sleep in.
Sunset spot:
Montauket: Go for sunset, they have the best view (says all the people I know who have been spending years in Montauk). Get a drink and enjoy the sunset with friends. They have a band performing before, during, and after the sunset which are mostly local bands performing. After the sunset everyone claps in their hand, which was very new to me.
The Surf Lodge: In the weekends The Surf Lodge hosts different artists that plays some beats during sunset
Sport:
If you wan to be sporty and active in Montauk, do not stress, there are plenty of places for you to go:
B Yoga: Offering yoga classes every day and bonus is, that Left hand coffee is right next door.
Soul Cycle: The hottest spinning class in New York (or in America or in WorldWide). They are taking the world with storm with their fast beet, no light, techno spinning classes. I went on a Saturday morning at 9:30AM and the class was full. 60 people on bikes on a Saturday morning spinning to Beyonce, old school dance music, and house music.
If you want to go to Barry's Bootcamp or SLT (reformer pilates) then you need to go to East Hamptons or South Hamptons.
