A Local's Guide to New York City, USA

Describe who you are in 3 sentences:
My name is Moa Åberg, I am easygoing but also very straight forward. I like trying new things with my friends but I also enjoy being alone reading and just relaxing at my apartment. I listen to a lot of different kind of music depending on what mood I’m in, and my favorite people are my siblings.

What is your relation to this city?
I found it really hard to be in New York at first, its a huge city with so many people but still somehow you can feel so alone. After a while ”we” hit it of and I’ve had some of the best times in my life (so far;)) in New York. It really has it all, whatever you’re in the mood for, it’s there.

Best experience?
I think the best NYC day is when you’re just strolling around different areas, I don’t have one specific experience I can pick from the top of my head. But that’s why this city is amazing, you can just walk around absorbing the energy and exploring restaurants/shops etc.

Weirdest experience?
I’ve had a lot of weird experiences in New York. For me the weirdest thing sometimes is the people. You can really find ALL sorts of humans in New York. Some are completely crazy.

Your top 3 hangout spots?

“The Bowery” is so nice and calm and a great spot to just have a drink with your friend, some places in the city are so loud and crazy that I really appreciate the more quite ones. To grab a coffee in West Village and then walk over to the West side is also super nice, especially when the sun is setting. The third hangout spot is “Cha Cha Matcha”. it’s a matcha place on Broome Street that spend way too much time at. They also have great ice cream and banana bread.

Favourite restaurants?
Theres so many amazing food spots in NYC that its almost impossible to just pick three. But for sushi I like “Blue Ribbon” on Sullivan Street. The food is great and the restaurant isn’t anything extra, just a nice dinner spot for a more relaxed night. And if you’re not in the mood for a relaxed night you can just drink some sake and you’re ready to party. “Balthazar” is a yummy french place in SoHo, the best thing on the menu is their creme brûlée and its basically the only reason I go there haha. “Wallflower” is a tiny tiny restaurant is West Village with the most amazing cocktails. This is my favorite place for a girls night.

Best date place?
Il Mulino” on West 3rd Street

Best Sunday spot?
I LOVE a good brunch, “Sadelles” is probably my favorite. Strolling/biking around Central Park is also super nice to do on a sunny Sunday.

If you were to live in another place, where would that be and why?

Realistically London, its a big city with so much to do (and eat..), and its beautiful. I love the fancy vibes in Kensington/Chelsea and theres a lot of cute food places and amazing shopping. But my alter ego really just wants to move to the Amalfi coast and eat Gelato all day in flower dresses.

Where is your escape place from this city?
Probably Long Island or the Hamptons. As a country girl the city gets really intense sometimes, I love getting out of the city. Especially when it’s hot and humid. Going somewhere with a little bit more nature and a pool without hearing car noises all the time is really like a massage for the soul.

Best 5 local advices?
1. Walk as much as you can, you miss a lot of the city if you’re always in a car.
2. Try some vegan/vegetarian food, New York has great options for this.
3. Lower East side has some really nice bars and places to go out, much nicer than most of the clubs. Its better music and better vibes.
4. Go vintage shopping! Theres both really expensive and really cheap places where you can find some good stuff.
5. Take a day in Brooklyn, its really underrated.
